News - Sex files: Looking at how records of sex and gender impact on human rights

Federal Human Rights Commissioner recently launched Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission’s Sex and Gender Diversity Blog to address difficulties in addressing peoples’ sex identification in official documents.

“The Sex files blog is looking at the difficulties people who are sex and gender diverse experience in being identified as their true sex or affirmed gender in official documents and government records” said Graeme Innes, Federal Human Rights Commissioner in the launch of blog. It is called Sex files: The legal recognition of sex in documents and government records.
HREOC has conducted preliminary consultations with sex and gender diverse communities to determine the most pressing human rights issues for people who are sex and gender diverse.
 This consultation found that the four broad areas of concern are: the ability to change or correct official and identity documents; access to health services and policy; protection from discrimination, and; education and awareness.
“The issue of legal recognition and the ability to amend documentation was most frequently raised in our consultations,” said Commissioner Innes. “People asked the Commission to focus on legislative reform and ensure we consult widely with sex and gender diverse communities in the process.
“The Sex files blog aims to reach as many people in the sex and gender diverse communities as possible.”
Comments on the blog are public, but participants can choose to post anonymously.

Good idea about the catch up

I'm great thanks for asking. Having fun with the men in my life , lots of dating . Life is fantastic . Good idea about the catch up . I might try and get a barbeque happeing in mid october . I have a friend visiting from WA so I'll let you know by pm here. Hey , dont worry about messing up posts . I can clean them up no problems.

oh , and I dressed it up a bit with some formatting and a pic. I just might get a FAQ together on how to edit on this site. The compose tips page is dated really 'cause the editor that you can use that sits on all the posting areas is pretty extensive in what it can do. I'll get to that . About time I guess I spent some time at this site again.

hey , , cool stuff adding a newsfeed hon. Well done you :) . Just one thing to keep in mind . When you post a new anything at this site you'll need to set the category to members or public . We tend to make newsfeeds publicly readable and this one was set to members so no one would see it but members . I've made it public , because its a item that needs to be seen .
